The GIFTED Framework™
Everyone is born with a gift. Not everyone finds their calling. The difference is what this framework was built to close.
At GiftedTalented.com, we believe giftedness isn’t confined to test scores. It is not a label a school gives or withholds. Every child is born carrying a gift. The question is never whether the gift exists. The question is what becomes of it.
The GIFTED Framework™ is our answer. It is a simple equation with a lifetime inside it:
Gift × Effort = Talent
Talent × Love = Calling
A gift is what a child is born with. Effort is what turns it into talent, the gift made skillful through work. And love, for the work itself and for the people it serves, is what turns talent into calling: the thing a person was made to do.
It is written into our name. Gifted, multiplied by effort, becomes Talented. GiftedTalented.com is the equation.
Most of the world stops at talent. Schools measure it, rankings sort it, resumes list it. We built this framework because talent is the middle of the story, not the end. Our work is helping students climb the whole ladder.
The Six Gifts
You cannot multiply what you have not identified. So the framework begins where every child begins: with the gift. We look for one (or more) of six.
G — Global Empathy, service, intercultural fluency. The child who connects across cultures and carries responsibility for others.
I — Intellectual Research, critical thinking, language mastery. The child who goes deep — who reads, questions, analyzes, and builds arguments.
F — Founder Vision, initiative, mobilization. The child who starts things and brings others along.
T — Technological Computational thinking, AI, engineering. The child who understands systems and builds with them.
E — Expressive Communication, imagination, artistry. The child who moves people — through speech, performance, writing, or art.
D — Dynamic Discipline, resilience, physical excellence. The child whose training builds mental strength — on the field, at the barre, or anywhere mastery demands endurance.
Every child is assessed for all six. Most carry one or two signature gifts, the areas where their brilliance is strongest and most natural. We find them and name them, because a named gift is a gift a child can start multiplying.
A note on two gifts that neighbor each other: Intellectual is command of language (i.e., reading, analysis, argument on the page). Expressive is reach with it (i.e., speaking, performing, persuading). Depth and reach are different gifts, and some students carry both.
The Four Dimensions
The gift is only the first variable. The multipliers, effort and love, live in who a student is becoming. So alongside the six gifts, we look at four dimensions of the whole person:
- Foundation. What do they know? Command of core academics: reading, writing, mathematics, science.
- Thinking. How do they solve problems? Critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to work through what they have never seen before.
- Character. How do they work and persist? This is where effort lives. Self-management, teamwork, and the habits that carry a gift over the long run.
- Direction. Where are they going, and do they know why? This is where calling comes into view. Self-knowledge, purpose, and the ability to navigate the path ahead.
How We Use It
The GIFTED Framework™ is the lens behind everything we showcase, starting with GT 20 Under 20, our annual global recognition of twenty extraordinary students. When we select honorees, we look across all six gifts (not just the ones schools grade). When we tell a student's story, we name their signature gifts, because recognition means more when it is specific.
And the journey to being showcased is itself the development. A student who prepares to be seen (who gathers their work, articulates their gift, and puts it before the world) discovers what they carry in the process. Showcase is not the end of the path. For most students, it is where the path becomes visible.
Whether your child leads a team, solves problems no one assigned, moves an audience, or trains through setbacks, the GIFTED Framework™ recognizes what they carry, and puts it on the stage it deserves.
Everyone is born with a gift. Gift times effort makes talent. Talent times love makes calling. We help students climb.
If you know a student who carries one of these gifts, GT 20 Under 20 is where their story begins. Nominate them.
Where It Comes From
Our team, led by a former ACT executive, designed the assessment dimensions on the foundation of the ACT® Holistic Framework™, the research-based model that defines success from kindergarten through career. The equation at the heart of the GIFTED Framework™, as well as the six gifts it discovers, are original to GiftedTalented.com.
